A couple of years ago I saw my first bald eagle flying over Lake Jordan off Route 64. There are a number of large birds one sees between Apex and Pittsboro, but this was notable because the bird's head was white.
I later found out that bald eagles had been successfully reintroduced in a nesting ground on the part of Lake Jordan that is just south of Durham.
I always look for the eagles as I cross the lake by car, but hadn't seen any since that first one until today. Around 3:30 pm a mid-sized bald eagle flew across 64. Although the bald eagles are doing well in their come back from being endangered, it's still a thrill to see one.
